Topland has sold Green Park, a 0.50 hectare (1.23 acres) prime development opportunity in Bath city centre to the Berkeley Group. It is understood Berkeley Group is considering a student housing scheme for the site. The purchase price was not disclosed. Topland Group which is led by Sol Zakay is one of the largest privately owned international investment groups. It had secured planning consent for a 190-bed hotel incorporating a coffee shop and restaurant, and a 28,500 sq ft office upon demolition of Green Park House which is a vacant residential care home. The site fronting Green Park Road is located just from 500m from the SouthGate Shopping Centre and 800m from Bath Spa railway station. Topland managing director Mark Kingston said: “We acquired the site a few years ago with the view of it being a medium term development site and we secured a very attractive planning consent. However we were very pleased with the price achieved and the proceeds of the sale will be recycled into further acquisitions”. In March 2012 Topland acquired the world renowned luxurious Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath. Savills advised Topland.
